Thailand is one of the most varied countries in the world, from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the beautiful rainforest or the sunny island of Ko Samui. My early stop was Bangkok, the behemoth of screaming traffic and noise. I stepped emerge the taxi, and gave the grinning driver a handful of coins. Already I knew Thailand was different. In just the ride from the airport Id already seen at least five billboards proverb flattery our King, miles of waste land and three desperate flavour people standing on the motorway with cardboard signs saying help the blind or something similar.
As I pass through the streets of Bangkok to my hotel I am already bombarded with a barrage of fake shoes, handbags and designer watches, sellers all fighting for a piece of the rich westerners money. Truly, the streets here are amazing. All on the sides, a plethora of seasoned sellers are haggling, over lawn bowling of brightly colored foods, from yellow, to red, and vibrant purple stores selling pots of strain and, a traditional Thai dishes such as slog Thai.
Another thing that strikes me is the contrast between people in Thailand and this has left a lasting impression on me.
On my left people are begging, and on my right massive glistening shopping centers are filled with the rich and the tourists, quest respite from the eternal heat and smell of Bangkok, as the short(p) people sit on the ground in the comparable position for hours, grateful for every penny they get.
The next twenty-four hours I was off to my next stop, the rainforest, seeking a strike from the chaotic life and noise in Bangkok. I didnt get it. Although not quite as hectic, the rainforest sure enough did not help me get any rest- there were more than things here intent on denying my relaxation. The first of these were the bugs, which all sidereal day and all night chirped and squeaked and clicked and hummed and whirred and buzzed.
