The first reality tv show was first windy in the 1950s. It featured a band leader and his family. The show actually started on the radio and was a about a husband and wife. The children were brought in and later, after it had transferred to tv, the kids grew up, got married and their wives were also in the show.

It was called The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and began on as a radio show in 1935 and lasted 31 years until it ended its tv run in 1966.

All reality shows are fairly scripted. If you ever slang the behind the scenes or interviews with people who imbibe starred in reality shows they all say the same thing.  Directors direct them to do certain things and a lot of the material gets edited so much that what really happened isnt what the viewers see.  So while Ozzie and Harriet were somewhat scripted, the show was still the reality of their lives.  Their children were brought into the show, they grew up on the show, their wives were on the show.

Thanks to the cable net income that has given us the opportunity of watching reality TV shows like Temptation Island, Fear Factor, etc. These shows broke the monotony of traditional scripted shows and started to represent real-life situations or documentary yield of common man instead of professional actors. It seems, presently people are hooked on to it like children hook on chocolate or ice cream. Watching reality shows have become our favorite pastime and a source of drama and enjoyment for us.
